Substance Abuse Free Environment, Inc., (SAFE) is a collaborative community coalition addressing alcohol and drug issues in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
In 1993, a core group of persons in the county, schools and community recognized the need for a coordinated effort to effectively address substance abuse issues in the county. They brought together key stakeholders to begin what was then called the Chesterfield Mobilization Against Substance Abuse. SAFE was selected as the logo for the organization and gradually replaced the previous name.
SAFE was incorporated with the State of Virginia in March of 1999 and received its tax exempt, nonprofit 501(c)3 status from the IRS in May of 1999.
SAFE has a variety of opportunities for involvement. See Volunteer Opportunities for specific information.
