The Speaker's Bureau is comprised of individuals involved in SAFE who have been trained to provide presentations on alcohol and other drug issues. Some are professionals who work in the field of substance abuse prevention and treatment. Others are parents whose children or family members became involved in alcohol or drug abuse and have a passion to help prevent other families from facing the ordeals they went through.
The Speaker's Bureau is available to civic or community organizations, PTAs or PTSAs, professional associations, women's groups, churches or any interested group.
The basic presentation focuses on factors that put children and youth at risk for substance use and factors that can help mitigate those risks (protective factors). They also highlight the role individuals and the community can play in helping prevent youth alcohol and drug use - practical ways to make a difference.
Presentations generally last 20 to 30 minutes. A question and answer period is encouraged. The presentation can be tailored to shorter or longer time periods and to the interests of the audience.
